eijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Railway, has kicked off its plan to go public in the A-share market.

China Securities Regulatory Commission listed the guidance form for public listing of Beijin

g-Shanghai High-Speed Railway on Tuesday on its website, signaling the company has formally entered the listing process.

According to an interview with CCTV, the spokesperson from China Railway said going p

ublic was a significant step in the State-owned enterprise’s shareholding reform.

“It was also an action to push forward the mixed ownership econo

my and optimize the railway enterprises’ capital structure,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said the company is expected to complete pre-listing tutoring by the end of 2019.

Members also carry on doing their other tasks, such as far

ming, cooking, taking care of children and household chores, and pick up pins and needles only in their free time.

“Apart from being able to increase their incomes, what is noticeable is that the women finally have a say in their family decisions now,” says Zhang.

“Earlier, they used to feel that they needed to ask their husbands even if they just w

anted to buy a 10-yuan sweater. But now, they feel free to make their own choices.”

In 2016, the China Women’s Federation designated Xihe county as the model base for alle

viating poverty and began to offer financial support to the likes of Qiqiao Workshop.

One of the beneficiaries was Lyu Xiaohong, the founder of the Baoji Embroidery Culture Company.

The federation encourages poor households to become shareholders by allocating each

of them an equity of 5,000 yuan. At the same time, Lyu’s company signed an agreement with the hou

seholds, promising a dividend of not less than 1,000 yuan by the end of each year. Now, 36 poor households in the v

illage, more than half of such households there, have decided to join the company.

With the federation’s support, these women have also lear

learned to sell their work online.

Meanwhile, Lyu registered an online store on Taobao in 2016 and says she has since earned 50,000 yuan.

Speaking about the efforts, Luo Shumei, the president of the Wo

men’s Federation of Changdao village, Xihe county, says: “It’s a good thing to see embroidery pro

duction in Xihe county is shifting from being scattered to being more organized.

“But one drawback is that we are yet to find a good market.”

Separately, in 2016, the Xihe Culture, Radio and

Broadcasting Administration designated Luo, now 32, as a Xihe Qiqiao culture “inheritor”.

As for the future prospects, Luo says: “To be honest, o

ur production is at a bit of a standstill now because we don’t know when the next order will come in.

“And we are reluctant to produce en masse beca

use of the risk of overstocking. But when an order does come in, we’ll work very hard.

Chinese icebreaker Xuelong ends odyssey through ‘roar

The Chinese icebreaker Xuelong with the 126 members of China’s 35th research mi

ssion to Antarctica on board ended on Friday a nine-day odyssey through the infamous “roaring forties.”

Xuelong is taking the Chinese researchers back to home. The voyage beginning Feb 14 has turned o

ut to be the longest and hardest of its altogether four travels through the westerlies during the research mission.

After leaving Prydz Bay by which the Chinese research base Zhongshan Station is loca

ted, the Chinese icebreaker almost immediately entered the westerlies.

”The westerlies usually are between 40 and 60 degrees south latitude, but this time the winds reached further to near 69

degrees south latitude, and that is where Prydz Bay and Zhongshan are,” said Xuelong’s Captain Shen Quan.

”We are currently north to the westerlies, but I’m afraid there is still a rocky, shaky journey ahead because of a tropical low pressure,” he added.

northward and on Friday passed through the westerlies at last.

On Saturday morning, a tropical low pressure moving rapidly eastward affec

ted Xuelong’s navigation, causing storms and around 3.5-meter-high swells in the sea.

Xuelong is expected to sail out of the low pressure area and enter calmer waters later in

Saturday. It is scheduled to be back to Shanghai in mid-March.

During this mission to Antarctica, Xuelong left Shanghai on Nov 2 and arrived at Zhongshan Station on Nov 30.

China aims to build world-class metropolitan areas by 2035

China aims to build several metropolitan areas with global influence by 2035, according to the country’s top economic planner.

Notable progress should be made by 2022 with improvement in infrastructure in

tegration, freer markets, more coordinated industries and more livable envi

ronments, according to the guidelines released by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

Metropolitan areas are regions in city clusters which circle around a big

city and are within an hour commute. China plans to build 19 city clusters by 2020.

Support will be given to develop sectors like industrial design, cultural and creativ

e products, and financial services to establish an industrial mix with modern services as the main pillar.

Developing metropolitan areas will help optimize demographics and economic structures and stimu

late effective investment and potential consumption demands, lending steam to economic expansion, the NDRC said.

Wong Kong-tin, vice-chairman of the greater China legal

affairs committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong, said the appointment of Hong Kong and M

acao-based arbitrators to Nansha would be important in allowing Hong Kong and Macao residents to

directly participate in the social and economic development of the Chinese mainland.

“The introduction of Hong Kong-and Macao-based legal workers will help build a more open market and business system

based on international practices,” Wong was quoted as saying by Guangzhou Daily.

According to Wong, the court of arbitration for labor and personnel disputes of Nansha, which was set up in May 2

017, had already conducted exchanges with its Hong Kong counterparts.

“Through exchanges with its Hong Kong counterparts in the arbitration process, Nan

sha is expected to build a sound and efficient environment in labor ar

bitration, which will be very helpful to the development of the Nansha Free Trade Zone,” Wong said.

NYPD hate crimes task force investigating Nazi drawings

The New York Police Department’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating Nazi drawings found Friday morning at an elementary school in Queens, Detective George Tourovakas told CNN.

Dozens of swastikas, a Nazi eagle and the words “Hail Hitler” (sic) were found drawn in chalk on the pavement of PS 139’s schoolyard.

Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz, who represents the district, told CNN her office received photographs from a resident in the apartment building next to t

he school and immediately informed the police. According to Koslowitz, the area is a predominately Jewish neighborhood.

I am horrified, disgusted, and nauseated, to say the least, of what I have witnessed today. Naz

i imagery and anti-Semitic slurs were drawn at the PS 139 Playground in Rego Park. I was on the sce

ne today and most of the imagery has been washed away. Enough is enough! pic.twitter.com/vteXmlqQyk

”This was exceptionally scary today,” Koslowitz said, describing the images as “horrible, just horrible.”

Koslowitz told CNN she heard stories from her mother, who came from Poland, about anti-Semitic incidents in Europe in the

last century. Koslowitz, who grew up in New York, said she never believed an act of this nature could occur in the city.

”This really just has to stop,” she said. “There’s no question about it being a hate crime.”

There have been 36 anti-Semitic crimes reported in the city so this year, compared

with 21 for the same time last year, according to a New York Times report, which cited police.
